I just love these simple bouquets I found here on Lauren Drage’s photographic site.

I love the muted beach tones that have been incorporated into this styling. The sandy striped cushions and the shell white of the bentwood chairs combined with the gentle, softness of the florals make this a picture perfect venue for a wedding ceremony.

The highlights of subtle sea blue incorporated into the table settings in the shape of candle holders, plates and place mats stay true to the relaxed beach theme. This is such a beautiful setting. I wish I had been there!

I came across the Peppermint Cloud Etsy shop this morning and just fell head over heels in love with these wonderful handmade boutonniere and thought I would share them with you.

Each piece is lovingly handcrafted and I think they are absolutely gorgeous. They even have their own emotive names like Everybody Loves Creamsicle Boutonniere, In this Neck of the Woods Boutonniere and Orange You Glad to See Me Boutonniere to name just few.

After spending too long trying to decide which ones I should showcase I have just thrown caution to the wind and put them all up here for you to be inspired by.

Boutonniere is a French word and basically just means buttonhole and was worn in the buttonhole on the left lapel of the man’s suit jacket. Not there just to look pretty – the boutonniere was worn to ward off disease, bad smells and evil spirits – (but of course!).

Obviously suits used to have buttonholes (and even stem loops) sewn into the left lapel – not necessarily so these days which is why the agonising job of pinning the boutonniere to the lapel came into play.

So how do you pin a buttonhole on?

1. Begin by holding the stem of the boutonierre in one hand and the pin in the other.
2. Position the flower on the left hand lapel approximately 4 inches in from the tip of the left shoulder.
3. Make sure that the arrangement is pointing up and angled out slightly to point to the tip of the left shoulder.
4. Push the pin through the lapel (from the underside) up and through the back of the taped stem of the boutonniere for a distance of at least 1 inch.
5. Push it back through to the underside of the lapel and fix.
6. Make sure you have pinned it really firmly and there you have it.

Sounds easy but take it from me it’s actually not that simple. Everytime I have tried to put one on someone else it ends up flopping and pointing in completely the wrong direction… so you may want to have a bit of a practice run before the big day.

In all honesty there is so much to say that I could fill a page of full of words and still not say everything – so I am going to just let these divine photos of glorious bouquets do all the work for me!

One good reason is the amazing use of succulents to make really lovely favours and table centrepieces. These great little masterpieces are all diy by the bride. Not only do they look great but you wouldn’t have any worries about your florals wilting or getting tired by the end of the day. Just look at these…

Who would have thought that succulents would make such amazing bouquets and boutonierre!

Yellow! What a happy sunshiney feel it gives to a wedding day.

The happy floral arrangements are delightful – so bright and natural.

The table settings are great too. I really like the silverware tied with twine and the cute little pun!

Mary and Stefan are a perfect match!

The venue for the ceremony was decorated with swathes of black and white fabric which framed the couple, large fabric lanterns and a variety of pumpkins threw in a splash of happy orange

The nine bridesmaids wore a variety of outfits and each carried an individual bouquet that was lush and full of colour.

Meg from La Partie Events who was responsible for the fantastic styling of the whole wedding said about the reception area “I wanted to incorporate splashes of bright color with the flowers so I started with bright coral peonies and added into the mix: bright orange parrot tulips, deep and bright pink roses, deep red roses, red and orange berries, bright pink cobra lilies, mauve tree peonies, deep burgundy and pink dahlias and some other funky floral accents. The floral containers were a mix of mason jars, Anthropologie goblets and mercury glass vases and I incorporated mini cloth and glass lanterns from Luna Bazaar and Anthropologie on some of the tables for fun. I completed the reception look with floating candles wrapped in birch wood or black and white stripped ribbon. Each table was also adorned with green oranges and mini pumpkins at each place setting.”

The food was a combination of delicious English style comfort-food during cocktail hour, ( Stefan is an expatriate Englishman working and living in California), followed by a lush family-style buffet display. It looks so tasty!!!

How fantastic to be able have the best of both worlds for your wedding! East meets West – I just love the richness of the red and the wonderful detail in the traditional Chinese clothes.
