Letterpress: the revival of a beautiful old craft

What works best …

Text and illustration are the best combinations for letterpress. Photo’s or large areas of solid colour simply do not work.

You get the most superb effect with intricate friezes and beautiful typography.

Most letterpress artisans are passionate about their craft which is another reason why you get such a wonderful result. The ink is hand mixed and each piece of paper is hand fed through the press, not just once but again for every colour used. This labour intensive process really is a labour of love!

Colour — how much is too much?

When it comes to letterpress the fewer colours used the better. Apart from the cost (every additional colour costs you more) the elegance inherent in these handprinted masterpieces is brought out by using one and two colours or even no colour at all!

Print without ink!

One of the best things about letterpress is that you can print without ink. Embossing and debossing the paper can give the most amazing results with absolutely no colour at all! Look at the wonderful effect below. The cards just ooze elegance!

Letterpress will add a whole new dimension to your wedding invitations. The combination of the visually beautiful and the feel of the printed paper is something that digital printing simply cannot reproduce. No wonder this ancient art is making such an well earned resurgence.
